Getting started with Video Feedback Log

From the first project to the change log in seven steps. The app is in British English and works completely offline; this guide describes version 1.0.0.

  1. 01

    Start a project

Projects → New project. Give it a title, optionally a client, #tags, the frame rate and a delivery date. Start blank or from a template: templates add standard checks to v1 as open notes. Want to look around first? Load the example projects from the start screen or from More → Data and backup.

  2. 02

    Log notes on a cut

Open the cut and tap Add note. Type the in point, an out point for a range, the note, who gave it, the category and the priority. Save + next keeps the reviewer and category and starts the next note at the last out point.

  3. 03

    Work through the notes

The status button on every note moves it on: open → in progress → done → verified. Write your reply in the note: what you changed, or why not. Filter by status or category and sort by timecode or priority.

  4. 04

    Set the approval status

On the cut, tap Draft, Sent for review, Changes requested or Approved. The review desk collects cuts waiting for feedback and cuts with changes requested from all projects.

  5. 05

    Create the next cut

On the project, tap New cut. Enter the date and running time and leave “Carry over open notes” switched on: open and in-progress notes move into the new cut, linked to their originals.

  6. 06

    Send the change log

Project or cut menu → Export. Choose From and To, then Share PDF, Save PDF or Share as text. Notes of one cut export as PDF, CSV or text; all cuts as one CSV.

  7. 07

    Back up your data

More → Data and backup → Share backup or Save to folder writes a JSON file with all projects and templates. Restore a backup adds it to your data or replaces everything. Uninstalling the app deletes its data, so keep a backup.

Questions

Does the app play or import my video?

No. The app is a log, not a player. You review the cut in your editing software, a review link or a screener and write the notes with their timecodes in the app.

How do I type a timecode quickly?

Type digits only, read from the right like on an edit controller: 12312 becomes 00:01:23:12, 4510 becomes 00:00:45:10. HH:MM:SS:FF, HH:MM:SS and MM:SS work too. Frames must be below the frame rate of the project.

Which frame rates are supported?

24, 25, 30 and 50 fps, non-drop-frame. If you change the frame rate of a project, every timecode is re-timed to the same moment and rounded to the nearest frame.

What happens to open notes when I add the next cut?

When you create the cut you can carry over every open and in-progress note. The copies keep timecode, text, priority and status and are linked to the original note on the previous cut.

What is in the change log?

Between two cuts: the notes that were fixed (done or verified), the notes still open and carried over with their current status, open notes that were not carried over and the new notes on the later cut, each with timecode, category, priority, reviewer and your reply.

Can my colleague use the same projects?

There is no cloud sync. You can send a backup file, which the other phone can add or restore under More → Data and backup. Reference stills are not part of the backup.

Does the app remind me of deliveries?

No – the app sends no notifications at all. The review desk shows deliveries in the next 14 days, overdue ones first, whenever you open it.
